License Limiting and School Board Critiques: Feedback Friday
Patch users and Facebook fans talked about liquor licenses in the Heights and school board conduct in Olympia Fields this week.

Yes! We hit 400 likes on the Chicago Heights Patch Facebook page this week and it was all thanks to you!
As we continue to grow and spread information, we'll need more help from the community. Posting events and announcements to Patch is doing a service to Chicago Heights, Olympia Fields and South Chicago Heights, so keep them coming. We also have a great classifieds section where local businesses can post jobs for free, and if you've lost a loved one, we print obituaries for free as well.
Just some things to keep in mind.

License Limiting
An interesting story that came out of the city council meeting this week was for selling alcohol, pawnbrokering, and precious metal and gem brokering. The story went up Thursday and the conversations have started.

: Thank you, Josh Deabel for trying to stop the passage of liquor licenses to gas stations in the Heights. Nobody else on our council sees this as most likely causing more problems in our neighborhoods? How many gas stations will be allowed to get these liquor licenses? If it's more than one, then nothing was improved by the passage of this ordinance!
: Chicago Heights is the only municipality in the area where gas stations can't sell liquor. The corner of Vollmer and Halsted now sits empty because of that ridiculous rule. Great job by the city council on this one!
Good ol' Winston Wolf. If you want to join the conversation, .
School Board Fascism?
Friday morning's Letter to the Editor from former State Board of Education member Helen Burleson was heated, to say the least. Burleson had a big problem with a perceived lack of community engagement from the Rich High School District 227 School Board,
We've already got our first comment on Burleson's letter:
Curtom: I'm not surprised at all. That's why the Rich schools continue to be on the watch list. It is also why we home schooled both of our daughters. So sad the students have to be last.
I'm guessing there will be plenty more to say about this topic.
Homosexuality at Home
In this week's Moms Talk entry, we asked . We got a ton of responses on Patch, but we also got a response on Facebook. See what one of our fans had to say:
Mary Smith Martinez: No it does not. When are people going to realize that gay people are our brothers, sisters, moms and dads, our children. We are all just people. Why does it matter who or how we love each other?
A thoughtful response. Thanks, Mary.
As we wrap up another week, let us know what you think of Chicago Heights Patch. How can we improve? What coverage would you like to see more of? Let us know.
