CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL β€” Liquor sales aren't allowed in Chicago Heights after 9 p.m. The curfew was put in place over the weekend by Chicago Heights Mayor David Gonzalez.

Gonzalez said the curfew will remain in place for the duration of the shelter-in-place order enacted a month ago by Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker. It was enacted to prevent late social gatherings at liquor stores in the city, Gonzalez said.

"Throughout the COVID-19 crisis, the city has taken every possible step to keep our residents safe," he wrote on the Chicago Heights Mayor's Facebook page. "This directive supports those measures by ensuring that locations selling package liquor goods are not a haven for social gatherings in the evening and complies with the critical need to maintain social distancing."
