The Marian Catholic Cheerleading Team 'Steps-Up' For Shoe Drive

The event is in partnership with Matthew's Motivational Projects for Humanity, a nonprofit organization working with people around the world

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL β€” The Marian Catholic High School Cheerleading Team hosted a shoe drive event last weekend that had many people stepping their way over to the school donating some kicks.

On Saturday Nov.7, the cheerleading team hosted the event in partnership with the Matthew's Motivational Projects for Humanity, a nonprofit organization that serves individuals in the Chicago land area and around the globe. The organization does so through creation and support of projects that motivate the desire to create a better future for those in need.

According to Marian Catholic, the cheerleading team managed to collect over 300 pairs of new and gently used shoes for adults and children in need. The Marian Catholic student body has more than 900 students from 69 communities in Illinois and Northwest Indiana, according to the school.

On Feb. 1, the cheerleading team scored 85.83 in the medium division of the Joliet Central Sectional. The school earned sixth place overall and fell just short of qualifying for the IHSA State Tournament for a third straight year, according to the school.
