Police Blotter: A Bakery Trip Ends With Flying Bullets and a Car Chase

SATURDAY, APRIL 18

A Pint Too Many

Andrew Smith, 47, of the 19500 block of Lake Park Drive in Lynwood, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after his car was stopped near the intersection of Vincennes Avenue and McEldowney Street for driving backwards into a parking lot from the street, according to reports. When asked if he had been drinking, police said, Smith replied he'd had two beers and shared a pint of Grey Goose Vodka with a friend.

Gang-Related Shooting

An 18-year-old Hazel Crest man told police he was in his car waiting for his girlfriend outside La Rositas Bakery when two men walked up to him and asked, "What gang you in?" When the man told them he wasn't in a gang, they responded, "This is the Kings' area," and told him to leave. The man said he left and drove around the back of the restaurant to get his girlfriend, but was met by a white "late '90s style" Chevy Tahoe, which chased him down Butler Avenue. The people in the vehicle shot at him several times between 23rd Street and 26th Street and left bullet holes in his car, according to police. The man said he was not hit with any bullets.

Smoking Rocks

Michael Lockett, 50, of the 100 block of East 155th Street in Harvey, was in police custody under charges of driving without a license and disobeying a stop sign when he had also been "smoking rocks," according to reports. Police then tested Lockett's urine for cocaine and added an additional charge of driving under the influence of drugs.

From Jimmy's to Jail

Ulysses V. Pollard, 29, of the 20100 block of Mohawk Trail in Olympia Fields, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. Pollard said to police, "I shouldn't be driving," after he was stopped near the intersection of 14th Street and Vincennes Avenue for speeding. Pollard said he was leaving Jimmy's Gentlemen's Club on Lincoln Highway and made a wrong turn going home. Pollard also had a warrant through the Homewood police for a different DUI charge.

Battery

A 29-year-old Chicago Heights man told police he was attacked by a group of people in the intersection of Hickory Street and Wilson Avenue. The man suffered a small laceration his forehead and was treated at St. James Hospital, according to reports. Police said the man was "highly intoxicated."

Just One Rock

Edward M. Kluth, 42, of the 400 block of West 14th Street was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance after police saw him with a clear plastic bag containing an off-white substance, which field-tested positive for cocaine, according to reports. Police said Kluth handed over the substance, stating "it's just one rock."

Possession

Olukayode Odunuye, 18, of the 20100 block of Willow Drive in Lynwood was arrested and charged with possession of under 30 grams of cannabis and speeding, according to police.

Lost and Found

A 47-year-old Chicago Heights man told police his son's gold BMX bike was stolen from Nick's Gyro's on 14th Street, The man said he recovered the bike at Beacon Boulevard and Division Street, where the teen-aged thief ditched the bike ran away from the man.
