Hiding With a Cocaine Pipe?

Matthew Jaquest, 18, who is homeless and from New Lenox, was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after police found him in an area known for a "high number of narcotic complaints and arrests," according to the report. Police saw Jaquest and two others laying in the seat of a vehicle attempting to avoid being seen, according to the report. When asked to get out of the vehicle Jaquest tossed a clear object onto the ground, which police identified as a pipe commonly used for smoking cocaine, according to the report.

'I'm Suspended'

Robert Johnston, 39, of the 21600 block of Olivia Avenue in Sauk Village, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police stopped him for disobeying a "no turn on red" sign, according to the report. Police were unable to understand most of Johnston's "rambling," but when asked for proof of insurance, he said "I'm suspended" while presenting a valid insurance card, according to the report. Johnston was so "unsure of himself" police had to guide him to the police car when taking him into custody, according to the report.

Burglary

A 24-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police she came home from work to discover two laptops, a DVD player and a video camera were missing from her 16th Street apartment. The woman told police she secured the apartment door before she left, but there were no signs of forced entry into the apartment, police said.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 1

Foiled Credit Card Swipes

An employee at Mobile Gas Station in the 400 block of 14th Street told police the credit card machine had been malfunctioning and that an IT employee was called to troubleshoot the issue. When the IT employee got on the roof of the gas station he noticed aluminum foil had been wrapped around the satellite connected to the credit card machine, which caused the disruption. The employee was unable to determine how many credit card transactions were affected by the tampering, according to the report.

Burglary

A 42-year-old Chicago Heights man told police he returned to his Hickory Street home after picking his son up to discover his back door had been forced in. The man later noticed his Playstation 3, along with 12 video games, was stolen, according to the report. The man also told police a laptop and light bulbs were taken.
