Police Blotter: Burglars on Tape, Swing-Set Thieves, and a Loose Dog

Chicago Heights police reports, July 17-19

TUESDAY, JULY 19

Caught on Tape

After responding to an alarm call from Shark's Fish and Chicken, 1453 Western Ave., police saw that someone had entered the building through a ventilation shaft. Surveillance footage showed two men wearing gloves enter the building through the ceiling and ransack an office before leaving through a rear door, police said. 

Swing Set Swiped

A 45-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police that between 12:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. a three-person swing set and two wooden tables were stolen from her backyard while she was sleeping.

MONDAY, JULY 18

Beaten by 'Swag'

A 21-year-old Chicago Heights man told police he was attacked by four men, one of whom was known only as "Swag." It started when one of the men struck him in the face with a closed fist and the others joined in, according to the report. The victim was treated for his wounds at St. James Hospital and opted not to pursue the matter.

Change of Heart

Jazmine Briceno, 23, of the 2400 block of Chicago Road, was arrested and charged with criminal trespassing after she refused to leave someone's residence, according to the report. Police said Briceno fled the scene when they arrived but returned a short time later. She was then taken into custody.

SUNDAY, JULY 17

Home Invasion

A 59-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police she woke up at 2 a.m., heard someone in her apartment and screamed. Seven hours later her daughter arrived and noticed the front and back doors of the apartment were wide open, according to the report. Police said it appeared the offenders had tried to remove the air conditioning unit from the apartment window. The victim said she had been afraid to leave her room and call the police when the incident happened. 

Loose Dog

Police were called after it was reported that a loose dog had been chasing small children near the intersection of Hickory and Euclid. Police saw the dog (possibly a pit bull) running wild without a leash and notified a canine officer, who took the dog into custody. The dog was transported to the South Suburban Humane Society.
