Police Blotter: DUI Arrestee Had Juvenile in Car, Police Find Drugs in a Flashlight

SUNDAY, JULY 24

Flashlight Full of Coke

Brian A. Clay, 44, of the 1500 block of Stewart Avenue, was charged with possession of a controlled substance after police were told he was selling narcotics. When asked if he had drugs or weapons on him, Clay replied, "No, I got a flashlight," according to the police report. Police discovered 0.9 grams of a substance that tested positive for cocaine inside the flashlight's battery compartment, police said.

DUI with a Juvenile Passenger

Gonzalo Gomez, 49, of the 1900 block of Dartmouth Street, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after he was stopped going northbound in the southbound lane of East End Avenue, police said. Gomez, who had a juvenile passenger in the car, told police he drank six Bud Lights within the two hours before he got in the car, according to the report. Gomez's blood alcohol content registered at more than two-and-a-half times the legal limit, police said.

Burglary at Harold's

Responding to a burglar alarm call, police noticed the drive-thru window at Harold's Chicken, 1537 Western Ave., was broken, according to the police report. The owner of the restaurant said the cash register had been moved and a metal drawer containing $250 was missing, police said. The keys to the cash register were found near the broken window, police said.

Stolen Car

A 19-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police her car was stolen from a street in front of her home July 23 between 11:30 p.m. and midnight. According to the police report, the woman said she could not remember if the car doors were locked but that her steering column was peeled down from a previous theft attempt.

SATURDAY, JULY 23

Dog Bite

A 38-year-old Chicago woman told police she was at C.P. Cargo, 600 East Joe Orr Rd., when a tan dog attacked her, biting her on the thigh. The woman drove herself to St. James Hospital and was treated for her injuries, according to the report. Police were unable to locate the dog.

'Bama' Battery

A 62-year-old Park Forest man told police a man he knows only as "Bama" struck him in the head with a stick and punched him in the face with a closed fist. The victim was "highly intoxicated" and was taken to St. James Hospital, where his injuries were treated, according to police.
