Police Blotter: Heights Man Left Bleeding from Face After Bottle Attack

SUNDAY, JULY 31
Bloody Bottle Beating
A 51-year-old Chicago Heights man, who was bleeding from a cut on the left side of his face, told police a man struck him with a bottle while he was walking on Main Street. Police went to the area, at 20 East Main Street, and saw a "large, bloody pool" in the grass, according to the report. The victim was taken to St. James Hospital by Chicago Heights Fire Department paramedics. At the hospital, the man told police the attacker said, "If I see you again, I'm going to chop you."
Attempted Snake Theft
A 22-year-old Chicago Heights woman and a 19-year-old homeless man carrying a snake told police they were near the intersection of 16th Street and Vincennes Avenue when a man approached them and said "run your pockets." The man demanded the homeless man give him the snake and the homeless man refused, but the woman did give the offender $10, according to the report.

DUI
Jose R. Gonzalez, 40, of the 16900 block of Dixie Highway, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after he was stopped on Ashland Avenue for swerving and nearly hitting another vehicle, police said. After failing field sobriety tests and saying he had drank four beers, Gonzalez was taken into custody, according to the report. Police said his blood alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit.
Assault Arrest at Thornwood Apartments
Elvis A. Balderas, 30, of the 200 block of East 23rd Street, was arrested after his ex-girlfriend told police she was in a verbal argument with him in the parking lot at Thornwood Apartments. The woman said Balderas threatened to "kick her (expletive)," then said the same to her sister. Both sisters filed assault charges, and security at Thornwood filed trespassing charges, saying Balderas returned after being instructed to leave, according to the report.

DUI
Fredie L. McDonald Jr., 22, of the 800 block of Greenbriar Drive in University Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police stopped him for improper lane usage, according to the report. Asked if he had been drinking, McDonald told police he had two drinks about an hour before driving.
SATURDAY, JULY 30
Three Women Accused of Battery
Tyronda Bennett, 30, and Reteresa Washington, 29, both of the 1st block of Olympic Village, and Jacklina Washington, 26, of 1300 Wentworth Avenue, were all charged with battery. Bennett was seen swinging a pole at a Chicago Heights woman at the woman's home when police arrived, according to the report. The woman told police Bennett and both Washington sisters punched and scratched her multiple times, leaving injuries on her right arm, under her left eye and on her forehead. The woman refused medical attention, according to police.
Cart-Car Collision
An employee of Country Squire, 101 W. Joe Orr Rd., told police he was taking a load of carts back into the grocery store when an unknown person in a light blue Buick screamed and cursed at him to "move faster." The driver then took off at "a high rate of speed," hitting the carts in the parking lot before fleeing westbound on Joe Orr, the report said.
