Police Blotter: Self-Proclaimed Gang Member Caught With Revolver, Weed and Cocaine

MONDAY, FEB.27
Bad Breakup
Vernita A. Clinton, 19, of the 100 block of Martin Lane, was arrested and charged with domestic battery, after her girlfriend told police Clinton pushed her, ripped her shirt and punched her in the face after being told their relationship was over. Clinton then took the girlfriend's car keys and debit card before fleeing on foot, according to the report. Clinton returned later that morning and police took her into custody, according to the report.

Guns, Coke and Weed
Devon L. Kennedy, 20, of the 400 block of West 16th Place, was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis, no valid driver's license no proof of insurance and disobeying a stop sign. Police saw him exit his car at 21st Street and Aberdeen and throw a silver Smith & Wesson revolver under a parked car, according to the report. Police then checked Kennedy's car and found four bags of substances that tested positive for cocaine and marijuana. He was taken in to custody and told police he was aware of the bags, according to the report. Kennedy told police he is a member of the 4-Corner Hustler gang.
Attempted Burglary
A 19-year-old Chicago Heights man told police he was walking through a field behind the Radio Shack on 14th Street when he noticed he was being followed by two men in dark clothing. When he looked back, the two ran up to him. One of the suspect put his hand inside his coat and said "Give me your book bag," according to the report. The man yelled for help and ran, with the suspects fleeing up Donovan Street, according to the report.

Bottle Bash
A 52-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police she was in a vehicle with another woman, traveling on 14th Street when the other woman, who owned the vehicle, threw two glass bottles at her for no apparent reason. The woman got out of the vehicle and checked herself into St. James Hospital, according to the report. Police saw a 2-inch cut on the woman's forehead, which she received stitches for, according to the report.
Holy House
A 26-year-old Chicago Heights man told police he heard several gun shots near his Grant Street house at 9:18 p.m. The man said he then went outside to check and noticed six bullet holes on the east end of his house, according to the report. Police saw the bullet holes, as well as 19 shell casing in the same area, police said.
Midnight Surprise
A 27-year-old Chicago Heights woman told police she was awoken between just after midnight when someone threw a chunk of concrete through the bedroom window of her Center Avenue home. The woman said she had no idea who would do such a thing, but said she had been burglarized in the past, according to the report.
