Police Blotter: Suspicious Vehicle Drops Lawnmower as Cops Pursue

Kiara C. Williams, 22, of the 300 block of West 100th Street in Chicago, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police stopped her near the intersection of 14th Street and Hilltop Avenue for turning right on red illegally, swerving and speeding, according to the report. Police smelled alcohol on Williams and had her perform field sobriety tests, which she failed, according to the report. Williams racked up additional charges for disobeying a red light, blood alcohol content over .08, speeding, improper lane usage, no proof of insurance and drivers license not on person, according to police.
Suspicious Vehicle Evades Police
Police were dispatched to the first block of West Main Street for a white vehicle with the hood open, according to the report. Police saw the vehicle, which had its trunk open with a lawnmower in the back and tried to conduct a traffic stop, according to the report. Police said the vehicle refused to stop and ran a red light at East End Avenue and 26th Street, also crossing over the middle lane as it continued. The vehicle ran a second red light at Sauk Trail and continued through a stop sign at 31 Street, police said. Heights Police slowed and started following at a distance at that point, with Steger Police attempting to follow. The lawnmower fell out of the trunk at East End and Steger Road. Police tagged it into evidence, according to the report.

Battery With a Rat-Tail Comb
A 23-year-old Olympia Fields man told police while he was driving westbound on 26th Street he was battered by his passenger, a 22-year-old Chicago Heights woman. The woman struck the man once with a closed fist in the right side of his face then attempted to stab him in his right thigh with a βrat-tail comb,β according to the report. The woman then left the area in an unknown direction with the manβs house keys, according to the report. Police discovered a hole in a cigarette box that had been in the manβs right pocket, according to the report.
Trespassing at ZZ's
Cortez Thompson, 41, of the 400 block of West 14th Street, was arrested and charged with trespassing after an employee of ZZβs Market told police Thompson was creating a disturbing and refusing to leave. The employee told police this has been an ongoing problem.

Stolen Copper
An employee of a Chicago Heights irons and metals company located in the 1900 block of East End Avenue told police someone entered the building through an opening in one of the large bay doors and took 100 pounds of copper that was boxed up. The box was found turned over on the floor, according to the report. The value of the missing copper was unknown at the time of the report, police said.
