Prairie State College Evacuated For 'Smoke Event' On Roof

The main building at Prairie State College was briefly evacuated Tuesday after a "smoldering" was detected on the roof. No one was injured.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL β€”Smoldering roof work caused Prairie State officials to evacuate the college's main building Tuesday afternoon.

According to spokeswoman Andrea Small, a "smoldering" emergency officials described as a "smoke event" was detected on the roof shortly after 3 p.m. The building was evacuated as a cautionary measure, she said. No one was injured no one was ever in any danger, she said.

The smoldering erupted as part of an ongoing roof project at the college she said.

An announcement was made to students Tuesday afternoon that there was no danger, and that the may encounter a lingering scent of smoke in the building.

Fire officials gave an all-clear for everyone to re-enter the building at about 3:45 p.m.

The exact cause of the smoke and smoldering is not yet known.
