CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — Rail repairs on the Union Pacific railroad that goes through Chicago Heights will cause a closure of the crossing on Lincoln Highway just west of State Street later this month. The Illinois Department of Transportation has plans to completely close the crossing, and thus traffic in both directions on U.S. 30, beginning on June 16 and continuing to June 21.

During the construction, detour signs will guide drivers to State Street, Joe Orr Road, Halsted Street and Chicago Street to get around the shutdown. IDOT said drivers should "expect delays" and allow for extra time while commuting in the area near the rail crossing in a news release.

Weather could alter the dates for work being done at the crossing, according to IDOT.
