Teen Charged With First-Degree Murder In March Expressway Shooting

A 17-year-old driver is charged with a March 16 shooting On I-394 at Thornton Road in Cook County.

LYNWOOD, IL — A teen boy has been arrested and charged with murder in a March expressway shooting.

Illinois State Police on Friday said that the 17-year-old from Lynwood had been charged in the incident.

On March 16, at approximately 6:09 p.m., Illinois State Police were notified of a crash at Interstate 94 northbound at 170th Street in Lansing.

Troopers arrived and found the driver of a crashed blue Infiniti SUV, who had sustained a gunshot wound stemming from an expressway shooting that had just occurred on Illinois 394 northbound at Thornton Lansing Road in Cook County.

The driver was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

After an extensive ISP investigation, the suspect vehicle and a juvenile driver were identified, and a weapon was recovered.

On April 11, the teen driver was taken into custody. The teen is being held at the Riverdale Police Department pending his first court appearance.
