What Should Go Here? The Future Site of Alex Lopez Park

No one has openly objected to the Park District's plan to build a park in the late Mayor Alex Lopez's name, but there have been some questions about the location.

At the last Chicago Heights City Council meeting, on March 19, the council voted in favor of letting the use city land as the site of the new Alex Lopez Park this spring.

The park will be located on the stretch of grass closest to Chicago Road between the and the . But before voting in favor of using the land for a park, multiple aldermen expressed concerns about the park being so close to two of the busiest streets in Chicago Heights.

Fencing and good parenting are expected to act as deterrents to children running into the street, but it's a concern that could come up again.
