MARENGO, IL —The Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts awarded four Life Saving Awards during a ceremony on Wednesday.
The firefighters were recognized for their quick actions during a medical emergency on March 28, according to a news release from the fire district. On that date, they were called to a home for a report of a 72-year-old man, who was experiencing chest pain.
When they arrived at his residence, he was alert and talking. Moments later, he said he felt like he was going to pass out and suddenly went into cardiac arrest, fire officials said.

Life Saving Awards were presented to Battalion Chief Bill Weiss, Firefighter Paramedics Montana Bochette and Kiersten Wills, and Firefighter EMT Dylan Hart for their dedication to duty, quick action, and outstanding teamwork.
“I could not be prouder of our crew and of all the members of this district who commit themselves each day to serving the community,” said Fire Chief John Kimmel. “This donation will be carefully considered in the coming days, but it will likely go toward medical equipment. These are the tools that help save future lives, just like John’s.”
