Apartments Uninhabitable After McHenry Fire

The blaze broke out at a 2.5-story home, which had been converted into apartments.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL— A multi-family residence is uninhabitable following an early morning fire in McHenry.

The blaze broke out at about 2:30 a.m. Monday at the 2.5-story home, which had been converted into apartments, in the 1300 block of Park Street in McHenry, according to the news release from the McHenry Township Fire Protection District.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, heavy smoke was coming from the basement. No one was found inside the building, and fire crews were able to put the basement fire out, according to a news release.

The building sustained extensive damage is uninhabitable. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
