Fire Starts At Forest Preserve, Burns Through 130 Acres: Authorities
No one was injured in the fire, which started in a field within a McHenry County Conservation District site.
WAUCONDA, IL — No one was injured when a fire broke out in Island Lake Sunday evening.
The Wauconda Fire District was called to the area of Route 176 and Bassler Drive in Island Lake at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday for the large brush fire. The blaze burned through more than 130 acres, Adam Schlick, battalion chief for the Wauconda Fire Protection District.
Ten additional fire departments responded to help battle the blaze, according to authorities. The Lake and McHenry County Wildland Team was also called to the scene to offer additional support. The blaze was brought under control by 7:30 p.m.

The wildland team remained at the scene to address the dead trees in the area. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
