Cary Man Charged With Reckless Homicide In Crash That Killed Officer
The 23-year-old Cary man has been arrested and faces charges in connection with the collision that killed Glenview Officer Robert Fryc.

BARRINGTON, IL — A 23-year-old Cary man faces a reckless homicide charge for allegations he drove while under the influence and caused a crash that claimed the life of a Glenview Police Department officer.
Christopher Lopez, of the 400 block of Alma Terrace, is expected to appear for a detention hearing Tuesday in Cook County to determine whether he will remain detained while he awaits further court hearings in the reckless homicide case.
Lopez is accused of veering into the southbound lanes of traffic on Northwest Highway in Barrington early Sunday, colliding head-on with a vehicle driven by Glenview Police Department Officer Robert Fryc. Fryc was off duty at the time of the collision and on his way to start his shift at the Glenview Police Department.

News of Fryc's death has devastated the local law enforcement community. Many of Fryc's colleagues were sent home Sunday, and law enforcement from Cook County and neighboring communities assisted with shift coverage.
“Officer Fryc was more than just a colleague,” Glenview Police Chief William Fitzpatrick said in a prepared statement. “He was a part of our family and a part of this community. Our hearts are broken by his passing, and our priority now is to support his loved ones and our department as we grieve this unimaginable loss together.”
Fryc was recently recognized by village trustees for helping save the life of a fellow officer over the summer.
“On behalf of the entire Village, I extend our deepest condolences to Officer Fryc’s family, friends and fellow officers,” Village President Michael Jenny said in a prepared statement. “When the time is right, we will come together as a community to honor and remember his service.”
