Coroner IDs Man Found Dead In Burning Car In Walmart Parking Lot
The 68-year-old man found in the car in the Crystal Lake Walmart parking lot has been ID'd as Hal Manta, according to the coroner's office.
MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — The McHenry County Coroner's Office has identified a 68-year-old man who was found dead in a burning car in the Walmart parking lot in Crystal Lake last week.
The man has been identified as Hal Manta, according to the coroner's office. Manta does not have a permanent address, officials said.
Emergency crews were called to the scene of the blaze in the parking lot at 1205 S. Route 31 at about 5:40 a.m. on Thursday, police said. Witnesses made several attempts to help get Manta out of the car but were unable to due to the intensity of the fire, according to a news release from the police department.

After the fire was put out, Mantra was found inside the car and pronounced dead at the scene.
Mantra's death remains under investigation by the coroner's office and Crystal Lake fire and police departments.
