Coroner IDs Man Killed In McHenry County Crash

The McHenry County Coroner's Office has identified the man killed in a rollover crash over the weekend as Douglas Fowler, 57, of Capron.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — The McHenry County Coroner's Office has identified the man killed in a rollover crash over the weekend as Douglas Fowler, 57, of Capron.

The collision happened when a 1984 Chevrolet Corvette was headed east on Route 173 — and was passing vehicles at a high rate of speed. The car then went airborne while driving off the road and rolled over, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.

The car came to rest on its roof in the 24700 block of Illinois Route 173 in Dunham Township near Harvard.

The driver, who was identified Wednesday as Fowler, was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary results from an autopsy show he died from blunt force injuries to the head and body, according to authorities.

Speed and reckless driving is believed to be factors in the collision, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
