Coroner IDs Son Killed By Father In Weekend Shooting: Authorities

The McHenry County Coroner's Office has identified the son as Ryan Piezonka, 31, of Lake Zurich. His father has been charged with murder.

LAKEMOOR, IL — A 64-year-old Lakemoor man has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of his son over the weekend.

On Wednesday, the McHenry County Coroner's Office identified the son killed in the Sunday shooting as Ryan Piezonka, 31, of Lake Zurich. His father, James Piezonka, 64, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder for allegations he shot his "son and roommate" five times, Shaw Local News Network is reporting.

Shaw Local News Network is reporting Ryan Piezonka was found by authorities lying in the roadway in the 100 block of Rand Road-Route 120 in Lakemoor early Sunday. Prior to police being called to the scene, a passerby found Ryan in the street. He approached her car and told her, "my dad shot me," before falling into her car and then collapsing unconscious into the road, Assistant State’s Attorney Ashley Romito said in court on Monday.

Ryan was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

On Tuesday, McHenry County Circuit Court Judge Cynthia Lamb ordered James Piezonka to be held as court proceedings move forward. Court documents show James Piezonka has past felony convictions, including convictions on robbery and assault charges, which made it illegal for him to possess a gun, Shaw Local News Network is reporting.
