Crystal Lake Police Issue Tickets During Distracted Driving Campaign

In total, 17 citations were issued to drivers who violated hand-free laws and 10 tickets were given for other violations.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — The Crystal Lake Police Department issued 17 hands-free law violations and ten other traffic citations during additional traffic enforcement efforts for the April distracted driving enforcement period.

Included in the ten other citations were violations of traffic control devices and operation of uninsured motor vehicles, according to a news release. Police said "using your phone in anything other than hands-free mode in Illinois is dangerous and illegal."

Distracted Driving Awareness Month allows the Crystal Lake Police Department to bring heightened awareness to stop motorists from engaging in this deadly behavior, according to the news release.

The Crystal Lake Police Department joined forces with state and local law enforcement and highway safety partners for this enforcement effort.

The Illinois distracted driving campaign was made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
