Crystal Lake Police Target Drunk Drivers In Holiday Season

Police said drivers found not wearing seatbelts will also be pulled over and ticketed.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — Police in Crystal Lake this holiday season are not taking any chances with dangerous drivers.

Starting on Friday and continuing through Jan. 4, authorities from the Crystal Lake Police Department, Illinois Department of Transportation and Illinois State Police will be enforcing a "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign.

Residents are reminded that while drunk driving could result in dangerous or deadly crashes, it can also lead to more personal consequences. Drivers convicted of driving drunk could be made to pay fines, attorney fees and court costs.

Police remind residents who attend a holiday celebration, or who drink, to always designate a sober driver or prepare to arrange a ride from a cab service or on-demand rideshare company like Lyft or Uber.

Residents are also reminded to keep an eye on friends who might be inclined to drive after drinking and to always wear a seatbelt when inside a car.
