Deputy Fatally Shoots Person After Standoff Near Crystal Lake: Police

The incident happened in the 300 block of Briarwood Road in unincorporated Crystal Lake Thursday.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — One person is dead after being shot by police following a standoff near Crystal Lake Thursday, according to authorities.

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office was called to the domestic dispute in the 300 block of Briarwood Road in unincorporated Crystal Lake at about 4:20 p.m. Thursday, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.

When deputies arrived, the suspect had barricaded himself inside his home, police said.

The sheriff's office's SWAT team and Hostage Negotiation team responded, but were unable to get the armed person safely out of the home. The man was shot by a deputy and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The officer-involved shooting will now be investigated by the Major Investigation Team and the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office.
