Driver Dead After Car Goes Airborne, Rolls Over In McHenry County
The single-vehicle crash happened near Harvard over the weekend, authorities said.
MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A 57-year-old man is dead in a single-vehicle crash that happened Saturday afternoon in rural McHenry County.
The collision happened when a 1984 Chevrolet Corvette was headed east on Route 173 — and was passing vehicles at a high rate of speed — before it went airborne while driving off the road and rolled over, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office. The car came to rest on its roof in the 24700 block of Illinois Route 173 in Dunham Township near Harvard.
The driver, a 57-year-old Capron man, died in the crash, police said.

Speed and reckless driving is believed to be factors in the collision, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
