Man Accused Of Trespassing At Grayslake-Area Airport

GRAYSLAKE, IL — A 30-year-old Zion man faces charges for allegations he trespassed onto a runway at an airport last week near Grayslake.
Erik Deanda-Gonzalez, of the 3300 block of Holdridge Avenue in Zion, is accused of driving a Toyota onto an active runways at the Campbell Airport in unincorporated Grayslake and racing it back and forth, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
He is then accused of entering hangers at the aircraft. When deputies arrived, they found Deanda-Gonzalez inside an aircraft, which he did not own, parked near a taxiway, according to a news release.

He got out of the airplane and spoke with deputies and, after deputies began questioning him about his actions at the airport, he turned around and ran back toward an airplane and crawled back inside, according to police. Deputies pulled him out of the airplane and took him into custody.
Authorities found ammunition in Deanda-Gonzalez's car but no firearm. He was taken to the Lake County Jail and has been charged with criminal trespass to an airport runway, criminal trespass to an airport, resisting a peace officer, unlawful possession of firearm ammunition without a FOID card and criminal trespass to property.

He appears in court last week and was released with condition. He is next expected in court on Sept. 3.
