Man Charged After Other Man Stabbed Multiple Times During Fight In Cary

A Crystal Lake man was charged after he allegedly stabbed another man several times during a fight in Cary Saturday evening, requiring the victim to be flown to the hospital.

Brian McGrath, 50, of the 200 block of 2nd Street in Crystal Lake, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

The Cary Police Department and Cary Fire Protection District responded around 11:30 p.m. Saturday to the 100 block of South Spring Street in Cary for a report of a subject who was stabbed.

Emergency crews arrived and found a male subject with several stab wounds and lacerations to his abdomen and back, according to Cary Deputy Police Chief Scott Naydenoff.

Paramedics treated the man and transported him to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital.

The man was subsequently flown by a LifeNet medical helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment, Naydenoff said.

Officers learned the stabbing occurred at another residence near the 100 block of South Spring Street.

The victim and McGrath, who both knew each other, were involved in an argument that escalated into a physical fight.

The victim was stabbed in the fight and ran to the residence where emergency crews found him, Naydenoff said.

Police were able to identify the residence where the stabbing occurred and identified McGrath as the suspect.

McGrath was arrested and transported to the McHenry County Jail.

The victim’s injuries were not life-threatening and he remains in good condition at Advocate Condell Medical Center, Naydenoff said.

Police said this was an isolated incident and there was no threat to the public during the fight or the investigation.

McGrath remains held at the McHenry County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow morning for a bond hearing.
