FOX RIVER GROVE, IL — A Fox River Grove motel was facing the threat of being sued by the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office over safety concerns before striking a deal with the agency late last week, officials announced.

The office said that in recent years, several “unfortunate” overdose deaths have occurred at the River Inn Motel, located on Route 14 in Fox River Grove. After another overdose earlier this year, the county state’s attorney’s office informed the owners of its intent to file a lawsuit unless the motel improved its safety measures.

The lawsuit would have declared the property a nuisance if specific safety modifications were not made, the state’s attorney’s office said in a news release.
