McHenry Police Officer Injured In Crash Involving Squad Car

The McHenry officer was headed to an emergency call when their squad car was involved in a crash at Front St. near the Elm St. intersection.

MCHENRY, IL — A Monday crash involving a McHenry Police Department officer is under investigation as police said the officer's police car's emergency lights and siren had been activated before the crash happened at Front Street, just south of the Elm Street intersection. According to a news release from the police department, the officer and one other person were injured and taken to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital as a result of the crash. According to early investigation, the officer was headed to an emergency call at 3:48 p.m. Monday when a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado headed South on Front Street hit a 2010 Dodge Ram which had pulled over to yield to the police car. The Chevrolet pickup truck then hit the police car, a 2013 Ford Interceptor sedan.

The driver of the Chevrolet pickup and the police officer were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, and the driver of the Dodge pickup wasn't injured, according to the news release. Police added that there weren't any passengers in any of the vehicles.

Front Street between Elm Street and Main Street was closed until 4:40 p.m. while the
preliminary investigation took place, and the cars were removed from the scene, according to the news release.
