Middle School Evacuated Following Fire

No one was injured after a minor fire broke out in the teacher's lounge at a Woodstock middle school.

WOODSTOCK, IL — A middle school in Woodstock was evacuated following a fire Wednesday night, authorities said.

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District was called to Creekside Middle School, 3201 Hercules Road, at about 9 p.m. Wednesday for the reported fire, according to a news release from the fire/rescue district.

Firefighters found smoke coming from the teachers lounge and determined the cause of the blaze to be a pendant-style light fixture. The electricity to the room was shut off, and the building was evacuated.

There was a basketball practice happening at the time of the blaze, which caused smoke to fill the school, according to authorities.

No one was injured in the incident and the building was ventilated.
