New Route 14 Grocer Aims For September Opening

The Crystal Lake City Council approved a liquor license for KD Market during a Tuesday meeting.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — A new Polish grocery store will be opening soon in Crystal Lake.

During a city council meeting Tuesday, a representative with the grocer said KD Market is aiming to open in early September.

The 40,0oo-square foot grocery store is moving into a building formerly occupied by Joseph's Marketplace at 29 Crystal Lake Plaza. The Crystal Lake location will be the fourth for KD Market, which also has stores in Schaumburg, Mount Prospect and Wheeling.

The Polish grocery stores have been up and running since 1998. KD Market offers a variety of European and domestic products, traditional smoked meats and fresh breads, pastries and meals, according to the business's website.

The Crystal Lake City Council voted Tuesday in favor of approving a Class 13 liquor license for KD Market, which will allow for them to sell packaged liquor items at the store.

The license authorizes the sale of alcoholic liquors on the premises specified in the license in packages only but not for consumption on the premises, according to city documents. This will allow for the business to sell packaged alcohol between 7 a.m. and 1 a.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

The business has also been approved to sell liquor between 7 a.m. Saturday and 2 a.m. Sunday and from 7 a.m. Sunday and 2 a.m. Monday.
