New Route 14 Grocery Store Opens Thursday

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — A family-owned grocer will be opening its first store in McHenry County this week.

KD Market, which currently has four other locations across the Chicago area, will debut its newest and largest store in Crystal Lake on Thursday. The store, located at 29 Crystal Lake Plaza, will open at 10 a.m.

Founded in 1998 by husband-and-wife team Robert and Olga Wojciak, KD Market began as a small Polish deli in Schiller Park, known as Krystyna’s Deli, according to a news release. The couple started off with a simple dream of sharing homemade meals and fresh ingredients with the community.

Twenty-six years later, KD Market has grown and is known for its wide selection of fresh produce, traditional smoked meats, homemade meals and baked goods.

"We took a leap of faith back in April of 1998 when we opened our first store in Schiller Park," said Robert Wojciak, founder of KD Market. "Olga and I wanted to create a place where families could find the quality foods they love and trust. Now, 26 years later, we're excited to open our fifth location and continue to be a part of the special moments in our customers' lives."

The new Crystal Lake location will feature the largest produce section of any KD Market store, offering an expanded selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, according to the news release. Customers will also find all of KD Market’s signature Polish and Eastern European offerings, including homemade meals, freshly baked breads and pastries, and a variety of local and imported groceries.

"We've always believed that food has the power to bring people together, and we're proud to have been part of so many family dinners and holiday celebrations," added Wojciak. "As a family-owned business, we're committed to serving the Crystal Lake community with the same dedication to quality and service that has made KD Market a trusted name in the area."

A grand opening celebration will kick off at 10 a.m. Thursday and will include special in-store promotions, vendor demos and tastings throughout the weekend. Following its grand opening day, KD Market will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
