Red Lighting To Illuminate Historic Courthouse This Week
The one-night tribute that recognizes the National Fallen Firefighters memorial weekend will be held Friday at the courthouse in McHenry Co.
MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — Red lighting will illuminate McHenry County's historic courthouse in Woodstock on Friday as part of a one-night tribute that recognizes the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend.
This red lighting display is meant to honor the memory of firefighters across the country who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The red lighting is part of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation’s Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters campaign, which encourages communities to show their support by lighting buildings, landmarks, and homes in red, according to the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District.
Alex Vucha, public information officer for the fire/rescue district, said the historic courthouse, which is one of Woodstock’s most recognizable landmarks, provides a meaningful backdrop for this tribute. “We are grateful to the City of Woodstock for participating in this national tribute,” said Fire Chief Brendan Parker. “Lighting the Historic Courthouse in red is a simple yet powerful reminder of the risks our firefighters face and the sacrifices made in service to others.”
There will be no formal gathering or ceremony associated with the lighting. Vucha told Patch he believes the lights will be on from dusk on Friday through Saturday morning.

Residents are encouraged to pause and reflect as the lights shine that evening in honor of our fallen heroes, he said.
