Several McHenry County Businesses Target Of Recent Scam: Sheriff
County officials have been notified of this recent scam and are warning residents. Here's what to do if you've had contact with the company.
MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — The McHenry County Sheriff's Office received information of a scam happening in the county, specifically aimed at local businesses, according to the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office. The state's attorney's office said the scam involves sale representatives from Universal ADcom, or UAC Advertising Specialist, who sell promotional items, call business and tells them they're affiliated with various local organizations. Examples of those organizations include the sheriff's office, fire department and the Chamber of Commerce, according to officials.
This company has hundreds of complaints filed against them through the Better Business Bureau, in addition to a history of fraudulent practices, the state's attorney's office said. It's also been reported to several attorney general offices across the U.S.
Officials ask anyone who's had prior contact with this company who also feels like they're a victim of this scam to please make a police report with your local agency, and to please fill out a customer complaint fraud form via the Illinois Attorney General website.
