No One In Custody In Cary Road Rage Incident: Police

No one was injured when a person inside a vehicle on Cary-Algonquin fired shots at another vehicle late Saturday night.

CARY, IL — Authorities have not arrested anyone in connection with the road rage incident that happened over the weekend in Cary.

No one was injured in the shooting, which was reported in the area of Cary-Algonquin Road and Harper Avenue, police said. Authorities are continuing to search for the suspects involved, and say up to four rounds could've been fired in the road rage incident, according to a news release from the Cary Police Department.

"We do not have anyone in custody at this time. We are still attempting to determine if there is a connection between these subjects beyond this incident," said Scott Naydenoff, deputy chief for the Cary Police Department.

The man reporting the incident told police he was driving in the area of West Main Street and Cary-Algonquin Road at about 11 p.m. Saturday when a vehicle began driving erratically and close to his vehicle.

Occupants in both vehicles got into a brief verbal argument before the vehicles collided, according to the news release.

The other vehicle went off the road, stopping near the intersection of Cary-Algonquin Road and Harper Avenue. Someone inside that vehicle fired at least one round from a handgun in the direction of the other vehicle, and four male occupants then fled the area on foot, authorities said.

Police have identified a possible suspect, but no one has been taken into custody , authorities said Sunday.

Officers with the Lake and McHenry County Sheriff’s offices and Algonquin, Crystal Lake, Lake in the Hills and McHenry police departments assisted the Cary Police Department in searching for the suspects. Officers used K9 units and drones during the search but did not find the suspects, police said Sunday.

Authorities also said there is no reason to believe there is any threat to the general public.

Anyone who may have doorbell or security video footage in the area west of Cary-Algonquin Road., north of Klasen Road., east of Route 31 and south of U.S. Route 14 during the time of this incident is asked to contact the Cary Police Department’s Investigations Section at 847=639-2341.
