Uptick In Catalytic Converter Thefts Reported In Woodstock Area, Police Say

Police say there has been an uptick recently in catalytic converter thefts from vehicles in the Woodstock and surrounding area.

The Woodstock Police Department said that suspects are using tools to cut off the catalytic converters from underneath vehicles.

The suspects are quick in committing their crimes, police said.

Certain vehicles, including Mitsubishi Outlanders, Honda Elements and large trucks, such as Class C trucks, seem to be targeted more, police added.

Authorities recommend that residents park their vehicles in a garage if possible.

Those who do not have the ability to park in a garage should keep the area where the vehicle is parked well-lit.

Authorities also recommend residents have video surveillance near their parked vehicles in an effort to deter the would-be thieves.

“Video surveillance on your vehicle is another good idea to both help deter would-be thieves, and to help us catch them if your vehicle is targeted,” Woodstock police said.

Anyone who observes a person or vehicle that looks suspicious should call 911 or their local police non-emergency number.
