Video: Task Force Commander Sheds More Light on Hunt for Cop's Killers
The task force commander provided additional details after Friday afternoon's press conference.
The leader of a task force hunting for the killer’s of a small town cop shed more light on the investigation after a Friday afternoon press conference.
George Filenko, commander of the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force, touched on several facets of the investigation, including a tip from Michigan about a car stolen out of Chicago, the vague description — two white males and one black male — of the killers, the dozens of subjects interviewed about the slaying, and how each surrendered a biological sample for DNA comparison.
Filenko also discussed the last final radio transmission made by Fox Lake police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz before his death Tuesday morning.

“Initially he was asked if he needed another unit,” Filenko said. “He declined that and then, at some point, something must have happened where he decided, yes. Because he was asked again and he said, ‘Yes, send them.’”
The two backup officers found Gliniewicz shot dead. Filenko declined to say if Gliniewicz’s own pistol was used to kill him.
