Whooping Cough Cases Rise In McHenry Co., Outbreak Reported At H.S.

So far this year, 59 cases of whooping cough have been reported in McHenry County.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — McHenry County could see a record year for whooping cough cases, with a current outbreak affecting students at McHenry High Schools Upper Campus, health officials said.

Local health data shows that in November, there were 11 cases of whooping cough reported in the county, and in October, 20 cases of whooping cough were reported, Shaw Local News Network is reporting.

Susan Karras, the director of public health nursing at the county health department, told Shaw Local News Network the first case at the McHenry High School Upper Campus was reported on Oct. 12, and there have been eight cases — all students — reported in the outbreak.

Throughout 2204, a total of 59 whooping cough cases have been reported across McHenry County, which is much higher than any yearly total since at least 2018.
