WI Man Accused Of Armed Robbery At Crystal Lake Gas Station

The man accused in the Crystal Lake gas station robbery was arrested by Harvard police after he was found with a car that had been stolen.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL – A Wisconsin man faces felony aggravated robbery and felony theft charges related to a Monday armed robbery at a Crystal Lake gas station. Crystal Lake police said Joseph Hunter, 33, of Clinton, was originally arrested by Harvard Police Department after he was found in possession of a car that had been reported stolen to Crystal Lake police at 6:05 a.m. Monday. However, Harvard police believed hunter matched the description of the suspect in a robbery reported hours earlier at the Circle K Gas Station in the 220 block of Virginia Street, Crystal Lake police said.

Crystal Lake police were called at 12:40 a.m. Monday to the gas station for a report of an armed robbery, and when they arrived, officers learned one suspect went into the store and implied they were had a gun, and demanded money from the cashier. The suspect left the store with the money, and was last seen at the time heading east, police said, adding that no injuries were reported.

Later that morning, Crystal Lake detectives were called to Harvard, where they gathered evidence related to the robbery, police said.

As a result, the charges against Joseph Hunter were approved by the McHenry County States Attorney’s Office, according to police. Hunter is being held at the McHenry County jail, according to police.
