Woman Who Made 3 Tacos After Breaking Into Home Held On Pre-Trial Release: Police
Gail Govednik, 37, has been ordered detained as court proceedings move forward in Lake County in connection with her Sept. 29 arrest.
LAKE COUNTY, IL — A woman who allegedly went on a drunken rampage in Wauconda last month and then broke into a man's home, where police say she made three tacos with his food, now faces felony charges in Lake County.
Gail Govednik, 37, has been ordered detained as court proceedings move forward in Lake County in connection with her Sept. 29 arrest in Wauconda. Prior to her recent arrest, she was free on pre-trial release after being charged with felony possession of a weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and fleeing and eluding officers in Will County.
At about 8 p.m. on Sept. 29, authorities say Govednik was found intoxicated, lying down between a sidewalk and roadway on Willow Road in Wauconda after police received several reports from residents who’d had run-ins with her that day. Shortly before that, she was accused of breaking into the home of a man who lived in that area before lying down near the roadway.

Police said she admitted to officers to going into the home with the intention of stealing from it. She took food while there and cooked herself three tacos, according to court records.
The man who lived at the home said he'd returned home from work at about 8 p.m. to find his back door had been left ajar and that garbage and food had been thrown all over his home. The mess, he told police, was especially bad in the kitchen.

There was food all over the counters and the oven, he said. There was also woman's clothing strewn all over his lawn that appeared to be the clothing of his daughter, who was a college student and who was away at college, according to court documents.
The Wauconda Police Department first started receiving calls regarding Govednik around 6:30 p.m.
The first caller told police they observed Govednik having "possible substance abuse issues" while in the parking lot of Renegade Fitness, 1120 N. US Hwy 12. At that time, she walked up to the caller's car window, asked her to roll it down and then began yelling at her, according to court documents.
She then tried to climb on the hood of the car and slammed her hands down on it, prosecutors allege.
At about 7:40 p.m., prosecutors say Govednik approached a group of residents who were outside talking with each other near the intersection of Lark Dale Road and Willow Road. She asked for a charger, which the group said they would not give to her, according to the court reports.
Prosecutors say she left and then returned and asked them to give her a ride to Aurora, which they also refused to do. She left again and returned a third time, began making derogatory comments directed at the residents and slammed her hands on the vehicle before leaving again, according to police.
About 30 minutes later, officers found Govednik lying down near the roadway.
