Fast-Moving System To Bring 50 MPH Winds, Snow Showers To Chicago Area

A line of showers will bring the highest wind gusts around 50 mph between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Thursday.

ILLINOIS — Wind gusts over 50 mph are possible Thursday, as a fast-moving line of showers moves through the Chicago area, according to the National Weather Service.

First, gusts of 40 to 45 mph are expected later Thursday morning and afternoon, the weather service said. Gusts up to 40 mph are also expected Thursday night.

The high for Thursday is 53 degrees, but temperatures will fall in the afternoon. The weather service said temperatures will slowly fall in the afternoon, then quickly fall in the evening.

Gusty snow showers are also possible on Thursday evening, which could result in some slippery travel conditions, according to the weather service. Wind chills below zero are also expected Thursday night into Friday.

The weather service advised planning for possible travel impacts, and to secure outdoor decorations and furniture due to the wind.
