2. Danville City Council says ‘yes' to new entertainment center (wcia.com) — Danville’s City Council has unanimously backed a new trampoline park, restaurant, and rock-climbing center to replace the old Carle building on West Fairchild Street, with no direct cost to taxpayers. Council members also approved demolishing the former Red Lobster, clearing the way for a new restaurant a city official expects to be a strong revenue generator.

3. Project Success funding loss to severely impact Georgetown-Ridge Farm students (wandtv.com) — A major federal funding stream for Project Success of Vermilion County has been cut, threatening after-school services for Pine Crest and Mary Miller students in the Georgetown-Ridge Farm area, with no guaranteed support after Dec. 31. Based in Danville, the organization is appealing to the U.S. Department of Education and will offer limited alternative programs and no bus rides home, while other district sites remain unaffected.

4. Operation Honor Guard receives celebrity endorsement from 9-time Grammy nominee (wcia.com) — Danville’s American Legion Post 210 Honor Guard helped inspire Operation Honor Guard, which now outfits veteran honor guards nationwide with proper uniforms. Country star Blake Shelton is lending his voice to the cause, encouraging donations that will continue supporting Danville’s unit and many others that struggle to afford matching, weather-ready uniforms.

5. Illinois bill would allow state police to deport 'noncitizens' after crimes causing death or great bodily harm (bnd.com) — State Rep. Chris Miller has filed a bill that would require Illinois State Police to deport noncitizens convicted of crimes causing death or great bodily harm once they finish their sentences. His 101st District surrounds Champaign and Danville, so any change in state law could indirectly affect local residents’ views on crime, immigration, and public safety policies.
