5 Darien Nonprofits To Support This Holiday Season

DARIEN, IL — If you’re like many of your Darien neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Darien area.

Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

  1. Darien Historical Society, 7422 Cass Ave., mission is to "collect and preserve archives and artifacts relating to the history of Darien and to serve as a resource for students, educators, historians, genealogists, and other interested persons."
  2. Safety Village, 7400 Cass Ave., "a child safety educational program for children ages 5 through 10."
  3. Darien Youth Club, 1702 Plainfield Road, "a club for every child and it will remain that way as long as it is in existence. DYC parent-coaches strive to teach our children the skills and rules of every sport we offer while making sure they provide a positive playing experience for every player on the court or field."
  4. Darien Arts Council, which aims to "support, create, develop, and implement projects in Music, Theater, and the Fine Arts in the Darien Community."
  5. Good Works, 1906 Sweetbriar Lane, "committed to raising awareness and engaging others in social issues impacting us all • both locally and globally."
