Another Virus Record in Darien: County

DARIEN, IL — For the second week in a row, Darien broke a record in the number of weekly coronavirus cases, according to the DuPage County Health Department.

As of Sunday, Darien had seen 2,825 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 220 in the last week. The week before last, the city experienced 173 new cases, which beat the November 2020 record of 125.

The city's number of coronavirus deaths increased by two in the last week, to 32. The deaths work out to about a thousandth of Darien's population.

The number of those who have recovered is unavailable.

As of Sunday, Darien had 131 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning, better than its neighbors. The figure compares to 148 in DuPage County, 150 in Hinsdale, 158 in Elmhurst, 159 in La Grange Park, 163 in suburban Cook County, 164 in Clarendon Hills, 171 in La Grange and 173 in Western Springs.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 2,382,437, a 10.8 percent increase from the previous week, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 28,361.

Nationally, 59.5 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, a 10.6 percent increase from the previous week, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 834,077 people have died from the virus in the United States.
