Chicken Chain Plans Darien Location: Official

The chain has turned in its building plans to the city, the mayor says.

DARIEN, IL — The owner of the old Steak 'n Shake building in Darien may have a new occupant lined up.

This week, Mayor Joseph Marchese announced that Fry the Coop, a Chicago-area chicken restaurant chain, is planning to open in the building at 2019 W. 75th St.

At Tuesday's City Council meeting, Marchese said the chain recently turned in renovation plans for the building.

The chain has five locations — Elmhurst, Prospect Heights, Oak Lawn, Tinley Park and Chicago.

The business couldn't be reached for immediate comment.

Steak 'n Shake closed in the summer of 2020.

Last year, Alderman Eric Gustafson proposed that the Steak 'n Shake building be zoned to allow a marijuana shop. A city committee later rejected that idea.
