The Darien-area cemetery holds a top arboretum status.

DARIEN, IL – Clarendon Hills Cemetery is marking its 100th anniversary this year.

"It is an honor to serve as stewards of this sacred ground, where generations of families have found peace and solace, including my own," Scott Troost, president of Clarendon Hills Cemetery and Troost Cemeteries, said in a news release.

The cemetery, which is just outside Darien's boundary, holds ArbNet Level One Arboretum status, the release said.

"Our designation as a Level 1 Arboretum reflects our commitment to environmental sustainability, and we are proud of our ongoing community engagement through tree plantings, nature walks and our annual Memorial Day service," Troost said.

The cemetery plans to hold a centennial Memorial Day service. Special invitations will be given to the families of those interred at the cemetery, according to the news release.
