Darien Celebrates National Library Week with Theater Production
In honor of National Library Week, Darien's Indian Prairie Public Library will host The Children's Theater of Western Springs' production of "Lyle, Lyle Crocodile" Saturday.

In honor of National Library Week, Darien’s is using the celebration as an opportunity to also honor the patrons that come through the library doors on a daily basis.
“It’s a week of thanking our patrons who join us and really make us what we are,” said Mary-Jo Wolsky, youth services programming coordinator.
Among other activities planned for National Library Week, the library is hosting The Children’s Theater of Western Springs’ production of , from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 401 Plainfield Road.
The production is based on the books by Bernard Waber. Free tickets are available, but quickly running out, Wolsky said.
While she doesn’t want to give too much away, Wolsky said the story involves the adventures of Lyle, a crocodile who gets to live with a family in their New York home.
“You can imagine all the wonderful and exciting things that happen because of that,” she said.
As for the The Children’s Theater of Western Springs, Wolsky lauds them as “fantastic.”
“We’ve had them before,” she said. “They did Nate the Great last year, and it was wonderful. They’ve established a reputation. When children see them they know what the product is going to be like.”
began in 1958 as a national observance sponsored each April by the American Library Association and libraries across the country. The purpose is to celebrate the contributions of the nation's libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support. All types of libraries—school, public, academic and special—participate.
Other activities held at the Indian Prairie Public Library to celebrate National Library Week included taking pictures of patrons using the library, an Ask the Master Gardner workshop, an evening with author Kevin Guilfoyle, and collecting stories from patrons on why they love the library.
And the Indian Prairie staff members who keep the library running smoothly on a daily basis have also been recognized this week with flowers, cards of appreciation, coffee and coffee cakes, and meals.
