Darien Lions Seek Bike Riders for July 4th Parade

The Darien Lions are looking for a few good bikes- and some kids to ride them- for the organization’s 42nd’ annual Independence Day parade – which steps off at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 4th, from Hinsdale South High School – 7401 South Clarendon Hills Road.

Youngsters are invited to express what they like about their community and the good old USA by decorating their bikes and entering them in the Parade. Parade Chairman Mark Lewis stressed that kids will have free rein. “There are no rules. We just want to encourage kids to get involved and have some fun in the Parade,” he said. Trophies will be awarded by the Lions Club for the best decorated boys’ and girls’ bicycles.

Children and their decorated bikes should be at the parade lineup at 8:30 a.m. at the Hinsdale South High School parking lot. The parade will proceed north on Clarendon Hills Road, west on Plainfield road, then west on 75th Street to Eisenhower Junior High, at 1410 75th Street, Darien.

Customarily over 80 floats, marching bands and community organizations participate in the Parade. After the parade the Darien Historical Society will serve ice cream and lemonade outside the Old Lace School, 75th Street and Cass Avenue.

Community leaders, politicians, local businesses, area school bands and groups, churches and civic organizations all are invited to participate. Interested parties can find pertinent details on the Lions Club website - www.darienlionsclub.org.
