DARIEN, IL – Fry the Coop is planning to expand its small restaurant chain into Darien, but it's unclear when the new eatery will open.

In late August, owner Joe Fontana told Patch that the company was probably looking to open in mid-October. He said the restaurant was still hiring and training employees, among other things.

It's mid-November, and the restaurant at 2019 W. 75th St. has yet to open.

Patch left a message with Fontana last week, but he has not returned it. A reader posted a message on Patch recently, asking when the restaurant would open.

The chain originally planned to open the Darien location in September.

Fry the Coop is set for the site of the former Steak 'n Shake, which closed in summer 2020.

The chain, which started in 2017, has six locations – Elmhurst, Prospect Heights, Tinley Park, Oak Lawn and two in Chicago.
