Darien Targets Groups Of Delivery Drivers
Police issued tickets after they could not reach a resolution, the chief said.

DARIEN, IL – Over the summer, Darien police dealt with dozens of gig delivery drivers who regularly parked at the shopping complex that includes Walmart and Home Depot.
On July 23, the management of the parking lot complained about the problem.
The drivers were associated with Roadie, a company owned by UPS that matches gig drivers with deliveries. They would often park there from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to the city.

Roadie's app told the drivers to use the parking lot in question, Police Chief Greg Thomas told the City Council this week.
Thomas said police met with Roadie, UPS and others to resolve the problem without issuing citations.

"There were a lot of conversations back and forth," Thomas said. "Unfortunately, we did not come to a resolution, so we started issuing citations."
He said the police department gave 60 tickets to delivery drivers for parking there and another three for littering.
"Since Aug. 8, the issue has been pretty much settled," Thomas said. "We check on it daily."
People should call 911 if they see such congregations in the parking lot again, the chief said.
